Ken and Paula will discuss strategies for creating better artworks with a variety of common and creative tools.
The workshop will focus on concepts for making better starts, compelling artworks, going to new places in your work, and how to make fine art. They will use informative videos and pass on strategies, some not the literature, but handed down from the very best teachers.
Together, they will be going deeper into the how-to of making more appealing artworks with a variety of ideas and tools. After the day's sessions, the group is invited to further discussions and dinner. After the Sunday session, Ken will present Photoshop techniques for taking your works to the next level and creating better pathways for finishing your artworks. You will be given a simplified Photoshop guide and have access to a large photo file of over 2000 inspiring artworks.
Ken and Paula will demonstrate painting using oil and pastels, if requested.
They will discuss the idea of making strong starts and keeping the way open for more interesting and dramatic finishes.
In addition to making art works, Ken will talk about business and promotion, necessary tools for success in the marketplace.

There will be serious discussions, laughs, and your questions with more continuing after class hours. We will all come away with new tools to take your art to the next level. Ample time will be given to live problem solving, daily critiques and creative options.

3 immersive days / $690 per person.

Paula Hansen
My inspiration comes from Nature. But, I am not focused on accurate representational images, I am more engaged in expressing my perceptions of the world and making them visible to others. I want to share a part of what it’s like to be me - using light and color to bridge the span that normally exists between us - so that you can see the world as I see it.

Light and color bring me joy, and I want to share that through my paintings. I am honored and delighted when my work goes out in to the world - I imagine my paintings as emissaries from a land of creativity and beauty, reminding others of their own creative spark.
Being an artist is a huge blessing that I am grateful for every day.

Paula has a BS in Art and Math from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, and an MFA from the Maryland Art Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ken Elliott
Ken comes from a background of working in the art gallery and ancillary art businesses for over 40 years. As an artist for 25 of those years, he can speak to the business and creative aspects of being a professional artist.
He studied with Wolf Kahn for a month at the Santa Fe Art Institute Master Class program, coming away with enough information for a lifetime. For decades he has been associated with a number of wonderful and successful artists.
As a former gallery dealer, he has a great deal of experience and knowledge about past and present artists and their reasons for success. Having grown up in the arts with framing, gallery management and as an artist, he has much to offer to the hobbyist and professional artist.
